University of Montanta scientists at the Flathead Lake Bio Station have invented a new way to identify the presence of aquatic invasive species through environmental DNA. E-DNA identifies the presence of certain genetic markers from species, such as zebra mussels, through DNA that has been shed into the water. The scientists at Montana have figured out a way to do it cheaper and faster than previous systems. Thereby making it a realistic option for work in the field. Now that's some serious science.
